In the late 1800s with the movement of the railroad Greenback came into existence. The people of this new town wanted to call it Allegheny or Thompson Station but the POD refused the request. Greenback was suggested in a meeting for the state senate and Greenback was the official name for the new town. The first railroad was completed and the town started to work on their second railroad while opening up their first bank in 1912. Today Greenback has its own rescue squad including a fire department and ambulance service.
