In 1984, Cooper Communities proposed to build Tellico Village. It was approved but the actual construction did not start until 1986. The first family moved into Tellico Village in February of 1987. By December of of the same year, Tellico Village had 59 residents. Community churches and businesses sprang up and Tellico Village became a thriving community with a Homeowners Association, a public library, plus many clubs and service organizations.
